Electricity Rates In Texas

Choices in Electric Providers - The Latest Trends

The deregulation of electric providers in Texas created a more equitable environment for industry and consumers alike. Now, Texas can choose who provides them with electricity. This means people can shop around and get the best electric rates for their business or home.

The only down side (if there was one) is that now people have to become informed as to how the energy markets work and what effects the rates of energy and specifically electricity rates.

But, with a little diligence, a business owner or consumer can easily shop around and find the best electric rates and the best terms for their individual situation. Finding the best electric rates in Texas can be confusing, but with a little research and some knowledge of how the energy markets work, the best electric rate for your business can be obtained easily.

Here are some common questions and answers that we have come across concerning getting the best electricity rates in Texas:

  1. QUESTION:

who has the best 2 year contract for electricity in texas?
my contract with hudson energy is about to expire, who has the
best rates for residential rates in texas for electricity.
    many thanks y/a people.

    • ANSWER:

Just posting to get me out of the neg in points thanks.

  2. QUESTION:

Why has Texas gone from one the least expensive states in terms of electricity rates?
to one the most expensive states in terms of electricity rates?

    • ANSWER:
  3. QUESTION:

Is it better to pay a variable rate or fixed rate on electricity in Texas?
I'm buying my first house, moving to Pflugerville, and need to sign up for electricity and natural gas. Energy companies are offering fixed rate plans at 9.3 cents with a contract and variable rates at 8.9 cents without a contract.

What is cheaper in the long run? What is the best way to go?

Also, do energy companies also hook up natural gas or do I need to shop for a second company for that?

    • ANSWER:

Your electric and gas will be separate companies in Pflugerville. The fixed rate probably locks you in for 2 years. With-in two years, since there is deregulation in the Texas energy industry, I am sure you could find an energy company who will have a competitive rate if your 8.9 cents rises above an acceptable level for you. I may be wrong, but I kind of see this energy thing like the home phone long distance service was in the 80's...you could call each one and get a better deal every other week.

  4. QUESTION:

How can you save on an electricity bill in Texas?
I was wondering how you could save on electricity in Texas and get the cheapest kwH rate. I then came across this website (http://lbj.zurvita.biz) and saw my way out of high kwH rates. If you know of anything better, I would like to know. I'll be switching soon from TXU that makes you pay 15 cents per kwH. You get upwards of 30% decrease in that per kwH rate with this guy with MX Energy. It's so easy too. All you have to do is sign up on his secured website. The good thing about it is you can lock in that rate for up to 3 years. So when others rates are going up, yours remains the same. I just need to know if anyone can find a better deal than that so I can switch to them. In this economy, I'm trying to cut back on spending as much as I can. Go to http://lbj.zurvita.biz to see if there is a better rate on electricity in Texas.

    • ANSWER:

I was told if you unplug everything when not in use, and I mean everything, short of your refrigerator. This will help on the electric bill

  5. QUESTION:

Why did Obama want to pass law that he said "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket"?
Why did his Secretary of Energy Steven Chu say "“Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” ?

Is OBAMA trying to sabatoge the economy? Why is his NLRB attacking job creation in right-to-work states? Why is his EPA attacking job creation in Texas?

Does Obama want America to fail?

Best Electric Rates Houston

Finding the best electric rates in Houston is no different than anywhere else in Texas, except because of the broad customer base, there is more competition.

You will find brokers competing for your business to find you the best electricity rates for your business or home. These brokers are for the most part knowledgeable and have good intentions.  They stay in business based on how well they do for their clients, and don't want to risk getting a bad reputation.

For those who just can't stand the thought of asking for help (which is free by the way), a few hours calling the various electric providers in the phone book or available online will be a good start. Just be aware that these people are salespeople and do represent the electric provider and not you.

Finding the best electricity rates in Houston shouldn't be too hard with all the competing providers that truly want your business. Just make an informed and careful decision and read the fine print;)

Here are the most common questions about finding the best electricity rates in Houston Texas:

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Who has the best electricity rates in Houston ,TX right now?

    • ANSWER:
There are a couple that are very close to rock bottom in terms of 12 month contracts.

But if you want bigger players that have at least 300,000 customers I would recommend my company. You don't want smaller ones as 3 have already bit the dust this summer alone as Riverway Power was one of the most recent ones.

      My rate is 16.7 cents/kWh 1yr
      16.5 cents/kWh 2 yr
16.9 cents/kWh 1yr GREEN (The lowest as of today)

Remember to read the facts labels. Many companies will charge you a flat rate if you dip below 1000kWh usage and others just charge you a flat /month just for being their customer. Look at the bottom dollar and pick which one. Remember the cheapest isn't always the best company for you. Take for example companies that do NOT invest into customer support which make you wait 30min just so you can find out what your contract is ending. That was a huge headache when I was with Reliant. My company has it all automated and will provide that for you without having to wait in line to speak with someone.

      contact me through my profile

  2. QUESTION:
What's a good electricity company in Houston that offers good rates and services?
I currently have Reliant but I'm wondering if I could get better rates...thanks for the tips. :)

    • ANSWER:
Do not go to Amigo energy. Trust me that company is the worse company around. I switched to them my first 2 months the electricity was about 90.00 1 bedroom apt. Then after that it kept going up the next month 250 then 300 then 450. A one bedroom apartment and electricity 0.00. My mom who lived here first was the one that had signed up with them when they came to the door. I called them and told them what are you thinking charging me that much and they tried to tell me that was right. I looked at all the sign up papers and noticed that my mom didn't even have to give her SS number so I changed it to Reliant and refused to pay them. The highest bill I have had the year and a few months with reliant was about 125 which was last month.
  3. QUESTION:

We will be having big house 3100 sq feet on rent having 2 stories - 4 bed rooms! So probably electricity in Houston would be one of our major routine expenses!

    • ANSWER:

  4. QUESTION:
In Houston -Suggestion for - The best electricity company for residential consumption?
We are in switching mode from Atlanta to Houston Sugar land area. Which are the best rates electricity companies? What else we should keep as deciding factors while finalizing the electricity companies . Say like some give cash back/air conditioning maintenance but air conditioning maintenance we many not like to have ...
We will be having big house 3100 sq feet on rent having 2 stories - 4 bed rooms! So probably electricity in Houston would be one of our major routine expenses!

    • ANSWER:
Go to www.powertochoose.org to compare the rates of the different companies. Then pick the cheapest one. Rates are pretty low now so it maybe good to lock in a rate for two year contract. The company you pick is just the company that sends you the bill so pick the lowest one. The company you pick will have nothing to do with the service of you power lines, that is all done by Centerpoint Energy.

Also from my personal experiance if you choose a month to month rate plan or let your long term contract expire then you can get burned. I let my long term contract expire and it autobmatically went to the month to month rate. I payed double my old rate, right in the middle of summer. I had two months of high bills before I was able to get back to a long term contract.

  5. QUESTION:
Is it better to pay a variable rate or fixed rate on electricity in Houston?
I am relocating and have never had to choose an electric provider. Not sure if better or fixed rates are better, and which companies are best.

    • ANSWER:
You write that you are relocating. The summers in Houston can easily average 98º to 102º with very high humidity. That means that your air conditioning bills in the summer will be unbearably high. The winter isn't as bad, because Houston never gets unbearably cold.

The power company determines fixed rates by averaging summer and winter bills. You winter bills will be higher using a fixed rate and your summer bills will be lower compared to a variable rate. The amount you pay over the entire 12 months will be about the same regardless of whether you select a fixed or a variable rate.

I live in Garland, TX (Dallas)

Houston Electricity

Houston Electricity Option as Your Retail Electric Provider - Auto Pay

Best Houston Electricity Rates

Houston is one of the larger and busier cities in Texas, so it's the target of many electric providers that are competing for local business and consumer accounts by offering the best electric rates possible.

These companies will often approach businesses or even hire sales forces to go door to door and business to business looking for new clients. Although this may seem slighly annoying, it can also be to the consumer's advantage. It helps with education and awareness about what effects electric rates and what choices are available to businesses and individual consumers.

Sometimes, the providers have some flexibility and can offer better than advertised rates, particularly to businesses that tend to use a lot of electricity.  This can be a huge savings and advantage to the business owner or manager that takes the time to investigate.

Use competition to get the best electric rates available - and sometimes even better electric rates than your competitor.

Here are some common questions about getting the best electric rates in Houston.

  2. QUESTION:

I'm buying a house in Houston and was wondering what's the best electricity company to sign with. Any ideas?
I've read the Terms of Service, price per Kw/h, etc., and some give more at the beginning, while others are cheaper in the long term. Who do you think is the best electricity provider in Houston? How long did it take for you to get your power back on after Hurricane Ike?

    • ANSWER:

The only way you should decide which provider to choose is through the www.powertochoose.org website. It is a site created by the Public Utility Commission after they deregulated the industry and finally gave us the right to choose our providers. It compares the current rates for every provider. Just click the 'Go Directly To Rates' and put in your zip code. Just make sure you are only looking at Fixed rates. I also wouldn't take a term of less than a year. Then just set a reminder for a year from now to switch again.

As for power after Ike. I was without for over two weeks, but that shouldn't be a factor in choosing your provider. 'Providers' are just resellers of power. They don't own the lines and they aren't the ones who fix the problems. That is all CenterPoint.

Here are some common questions we get about comparing electric rates:

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Has anybody used Universal Gas & Electric? how does thier rates compare to consumers?
I signed up today, but am really worried about the price i signed for. They said it was a great rate. But honestly i dont know how to tell what consumers rate is, and compare it to theirs. Anybody who has used them before and noticed a diffrence in thier bill, please answer. Is thier rate higher, or is it lower?? How do i tell??

    • ANSWER:
all the rates for the different companies are about the same-they all suck. the best way to compare is to call a few different providers in your area. rates vary across the nation (US) and it would be impossible to make a judgment based on a different locations answer
  2. QUESTION:
Electric Service in Texas, Power to Choose question. So I am trying to compare electric rates in Texas.?
I went to powertochoose.com but my problem is, all the rates are based on if you use 1000 kilowatts a month and I usually use 500-700. Except last month it was super cold and I used 1400, but that is just the winter time that I use alot. So how can I find out how much it is based on small usage? Also it isnt fair that they charge me more cause I use less, I thought going green and conserving energy was the new thing to do lol.

    • ANSWER:
solar panels work, if you contribute to your grid. You make money though, just whatever you contribute, ( electricity ), is credited to your bill
  3. QUESTION:
Can I change electric companies? Where can I compare rates?
I live in Carroll County Maryland and my BGE bill for a small duplex is 0.00/month. I rent so I am not able to upgrade the water heater or central air myself. Is BGE the only one or is there another electric company that supplies to my area that will be less expensive?

    • ANSWER:
Sad to say, but you're stuck with BGE -- for now.Public utility companies (while under strict federal and state regulation) are basically regional monopolies. They are allowed to operate outside of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act because their purpose is to provide a "functioning public service."

Utility companies can be owned privately, publicly and by a municipality. Some mixes of all three even exist.

I am a little surprised to learn your utility bill is over 0 for a small duplex. It might be that you have unknown energy drains occurring within the house. I'd also look into insulating your water heater -- this a step short of shelling out the dough for a new one and not that expensive.

I'd also call the community relations department at BGE -- while I'm not a big fan of theirs, it might help. Good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
How do I compare cooking power of gas and electric stoves?
Gas stove burners are rated in BTU; electric burners in W. I can convert watts to BTU/hr, or BTU to kWh. They have different dimensions. When they tell me a burner is 10,000 BTU, I wonder - is that if it's left on for an hour? That seems to be the only way to make the units match.

    • ANSWER:
      1 BTU = 1 055.05585 joules1Watt = 1joule/s

      Therefore 1BTU/hr=1 055.05585joule/hr = 29307.1Watt

I suppose that the answer to your second question maybe : yes

  5. QUESTION:
LOOK at your electric bill - How does [FAQ-QUESTION].091 per KWH compare to what you pay?
Is that more or less than you pay!??! All electric companies are different, so I am curious to see how mine stacks up.What is your rate?

    • ANSWER:
      [FAQ-ANSWER].100 per kWh

Compare Electric Rates

Compare Electric Rates, Cheapest Electricity Providers ,Texas ...

Comparing electricity rates in Texas

The Public Utility Commission (PUC) offers many resources to help consumers and business owners to understand the choices available when shopping for electricity service. Here are some things you should know before you start to compare electric rates.

Contracts and Terms
Some Retail Electric Providers (REPs) offer plans with no minimum contract period ("month-to-month" plans) and others may offer plans with contract periods as long as three years or more. Contracts with a term of three months or more may have a penalty if you cancel before the contract period ends. Make sure you understand what happens at the end of the contract period with respect to the pricing of your service, and ask the Retail Electric Provider if you are unsure.

Renewable/Green Energy
If you want a plan that is renewable, check the provider's Electricity Facts Label to see how much of the plan's electricity is generated from renewable resources, such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, landfill gas, or biomass. REPs are also allowed to designate products that use electricity generated by natural gas, which is a relatively clean fuel, as "green." Make sure you understand these distinctions when researching your options.

Fixed, Variable, and Indexed Electricity Rates
A fixed electricity rate will generally remain the same throughout the term of a contract (with minor exceptions). A variable electricity rate can go up or down each month according to a method chosen by the Retail Electric Provider (REP). An indexed rate is tied to a specific pricing formula disclosed by the REP. If you choose a plan with a long contract period and a fixed rate, you will have certainty that your price will not change during that time. While this may help your household budgeting, if market prices fall you may have to wait until your contract expires to enjoy a lower price. Variable and indexed rate plans can provide the benefit of an immediate pass-through of falling market prices but will also rise if natural gas and electricity prices spike due to natural disasters, cold winters, or market conditions. Make sure you understand how and under what conditions your rate can change when selecting a plan, and pick the one that's right for your needs.

Generating and Selling Renewable Power
Many homeowners and small businesses have installed, or are considering installing, renewable electric generation devices such as solar panels and wind turbines to provide some of the electricity they use. Distributed Renewable Generation (DRG) is the term used to refer to equipment that generates electricity using a renewable energy source such as wind, solar power, or bio-mass, and has a maximum output capacity of no more than two megawatts. Learn more.
Electric Assistance Programs
There are several types of assistance programs for electric customers who are low-income, elderly, disabled, or victims of family violence. For more information, visit our section on low-income assistance.

Incentives for Energy Efficiency and Renewables
The Federal Government offers tax incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy. Texas residents can also check with their local utility providers, as some have energy efficiency programs that offer low-cost loans/rebates and advice on renewable energy technologies.

Texas provides tax incentives for some businesses. For example, businesses that use, manufacture, or install solar or wind energy can receive franchise tax deductions and/or exemptions. There also exists a property tax exemption involving solar, wind, biomass, and anaerobic digestion for businesses that install or construct such systems.

Also it isnt fair that they charge me more cause I use less, I thought going green and conserving energy was the new thing to do lol.

    • ANSWER:
solar panels work, if you contribute to your grid. You make money though, just whatever you contribute, ( electricity ), is credited to your bill

    • ANSWER:
Sad to say, but you're stuck with BGE -- for now.

Public utility companies (while under strict federal and state regulation) are basically regional monopolies.

    • ANSWER:
      1 BTU = 1 055.05585 joules

      1Watt = 1joule/s

All electric companies are different, so I am curious to see how mine stacks up.

    What is your rate?

    • ANSWER:
      [FAQ-ANSWER].100 per kWh

Electricity Prices

First, let’s have a look at electricity prices over that last decade ...

Guide to Navigating Summer Electricity Prices

As we enter May, everyone in Texas is starting to feel the heat beginning to ratchet up to its typical Lone Star Sweltering. We’re not all that far away from the kind of heat and humidity that send visitors fleeing back to their home states as quickly as possible. For Texans shopping for electricity, this is a pretty important time for decision making when it comes to our summer electricity bills. If there’s one recurring theme I see every summer running an electricity website that is powered by user generated content, it is the feeling that they’re being ripped off by the way electricity rates rise during the summer months. And the reason they are so upset is just how MUCH the prices can rise. Electricity companies really aren’t fleecing anyone (well, most are not), it’s just simple math. The price of Natural Gas goes up in the summertime, as well as the cost of producing the electricity in the power plants because of the heat. At the same time, we all use more electricity to keep our homes cool. Combine all those factors, and everyone’s electricity bills are likely to spike. However, the damage can be minimized by planning ahead, and I’m going to point out some things that will help shoppers save money on their summer electricity bills.

Watch Out for Promotional Rates

The first thing that customers need to be sure and check out when they’re searching for new electricity plans is to make sure that they review if the rate they are buying (as it as advertised) is a temporary or promotional rate. If a company is offering a promotion, say the first 2 or 3 months of electricity at a lower promotional rate, they’re allowed to advertise that lowered rate as the price. Then, a couple months later, they can raise that rate to higher price, closer to on par with the market or even higher than the market. Think of it like a “Sign up now and get your 20% off your first two months” or a similar promotion that you’d see in any other business, like cable or phone service. This is standard across the board, and shows up most often with Variable or Indexed plans that are in the marketplace. Basically, these are the month to month plans where customers are signing up for a different rate that matches the market each month. These are the plans that get people into the most trouble when it comes to summer heat, because when the prices go up, people can find their electricity rates going up by 20-30% from one month to the next, and they’re shocked and didn’t budget for that more expensive electricity bill. It creates a lot of problems, and a lot of anger in the customer base who thinks the prices are going up for no apparent reason other than their electricity companies are trying to fleece them. The truth is it costs more for the electricity companies to buy the energy from the people who produce it from natural gas and coal plants. And it’s more expensive for them to buy because the Texas heat causes temperatures to rise and plants to overheat, which makes it more costly to produce electricity from coal/natural gas. So in the end, if you’re going to decide on a month to month plan to get through the summer, be ABSOLUTELY sure that you know if your rates are promotional rates, when those rates expire, and have a general idea for what the rates will be close to when the promotional period expires. This should help people prepare for the change in their bills when they hit, and hopefully they won’t be caught outside of their planned budget.

To help me illustrate this point, lets take a look at an example that exists in the market right now. The lowest variable plan in the market place right now is at 7.9 cents per kWh, offered by StarTex power, APNA, Dynowatt and Southwest Power & Light. Dynowatt calls their plan a “Residential Variable Plan”; APNA’s is a “Promotional Newcomer Plan”; StarTex Power calls their plan a “Promotional Month to Month”; and Southwest Power & Light calls theirs a Texas Independence Promotional Month to Month plan (that’s a mouthful). Most of these guys are up front in telling you that it is a promotional plan, and that’s great, but a typical customer might not know exactly what that means. Well, what it means is that while the rate is advertised at 7.9 cents, this is NOT what the rate will be in a month or two when that promotion expires. It will be something much higher. The fact of the matter is that unless each customer reads the details in their electricity facts label, they won’t really have any idea what that rate will be when the promotional period expires. This can be very misleading and confusing to customers unless they already know the exact questions to ask when ordering electricity. The point is, read the fine print and ask the right questions when you order electricity, otherwise several different factors could add up to a much larger than expected electricity bill come June or July.

Consider Getting a Fixed Rate Plan

Of course, my biggest suggestion in terms of how to save in the summer heat is to bypass any Month to Month plans entirely and sign a fixed rate contract. What is a fixed rate contract? It’s simply a contract with an electricity provider that you’ll stay with them as your provider for a certain amount of months, and if you leave early, you’ll have to pay a fee for breaking your contract. Anyone who has ever had satellite TV is familiar with this kind of agreement. But the benefit is that you’ll be able to lock in your rate at a low price now, and not have to worry about any of the fluctuations that come with the summer heat. The only increase in your bill will be the fact that you’re most likely to use more electricity to keep your home cool in the summer months, but you won’t be vulnerable to any rate increases. Typically, fixed rate plans are a little bit higher than Variable or Indexed rates, but that is simply electricity companies mitigating their own risk at offering longer contracts at certain prices. Two summers ago people were devastated by high summer bills when the cost of natural gas skyrocketed much higher than expected. When this happened, electricity companies were losing money on many of their fixed rate contracts because they were required to sell it to customers at a rate much cheaper than they could buy it for themselves. I believe the same principle applies to this and every summer, which is when things are at their hottest and most expensive, try to lock in a Fixed Rate to carry over through the hottest part of the year and then reevaluate things in the fall. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for fixed rate plans on the market. There are terms of 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 months rate out there, as well as even longer term options for people interested. The important thing to consider is that there’s a very small window left for consumers to lock in good fixed rates for the summer, because the longer you wait, and as things heat up, the higher the rates will be for fixed term plans as well. Electricity providers set their rates based off the prices they can buy the energy from the companies that generate it, so as they have to buy at more expensive rates so will customers. Right now, rates are at ridiculously low bargain basement prices, the lowest they’ve been in years. So it’s a smart play for customers to lock in those rates when the summer heat starts to overwhelm everyone. I can guarantee if people wait until June to start looking at the cost of fixed rate plans (currently to be found anywhere from 9-11 cents in the marketplace) will be at least 12-14 cents per kWh in just a few short weeks. So now is the time to act for people looking to save money.

Don’t Overlook Rewards and Incentives

While in my opinion, the most important key to saving money in the sweltering Texas summers is to lock in a fixed rate, another aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked are the customer incentives that are offered by many of the providers. Lots of guys in the marketplace offer some kind of incentive program for customers. Some offer air miles, some offer companion airfare, and some offer free magazines. Hell, some providers even offer most or all of those things, and more. But the important things in terms of saving money that are provided by a few of the electricity providers in the marketplace are direct money saving opportunities and incentive programs. Incentive programs are great because they amount to lower bills, or free electricity. Either one of those things will save customers money. Some providers offer a direct percentage of cash back on each bill if they’re enrolled in a loyalty program, and some providers accumulate points that can be cashed in for a free month of electricity, things like that. There are also companies that give monthly discounts and savings for customers that set up e-bills or auto-debit with their electricity providers. One provider in the marketplace even has a program for some customers that will lower their rates if they pay their electricity bills on time for a designated period, like six straight months. And again, some companies might have several or all of these options for their customers. It’s important for consumers to check out the websites of providers or ask the sales reps they’re speaking with on the phone questions about the different programs they offer to their customers. TXU has a 3% cash back rewards program for customers. Bounce Energy has discounts for on time bill payments, an incentive program, and free electricity for paying your bill for a number of consecutive months. A lot of these things may not seem like much, but in the oppressive Texas heat, every little bit of money saved on a monthly electricity bill can count, particularly in this economy. Hopefully these tips come in handy as a useful guide for customers looking to save money on their electricity bills.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    electricity prices....?
how much does the government pay you (per KWH) for putting electricity back into the national grid (e.g. if i have my own solar panels)
    x

    • ANSWER:
It would be the electricity companies, normally they buy it back at the same rate you pay. It can cancel out you bill if you had enough of them but mostly you still have to pay a bill.

  2. QUESTION:
Do you think in the future electricity prices will increase dramatically, similar to gasoline?
I'm thinking about purchasing an electric car, specifically the Nissan Leaf. I was just curious if you think the price of electricity would increase over the years, as more and more people convert to electric cars.Similar to when cars started to become more widely used, and the price of gasoline gradually went up. Do you predict this to happen to electricity as well?

    • ANSWER:
They always could increase because gasoline is a finite resource, but it probably won't happen any time soon. Your Nissan Leaf will probably be an old junker clunker by that time and you will probably be contemplating a motorized rickshaw by then. You will probably give up on your Leaf when you have to buy a new battery in a few years.

But it all depends on how the electricity is generated too. Electricity comes from a lot of different sources: burning coal which is mined in horrible ways (blowing off mountaintops & see how many people are killed every year in mining disasters) and it is also a finite resource, it just costs a lot of money to get out of the ground. Natural gas is also a finite resource. Nuclear energy is seemingly limitless and cheap, but its disposal is a hot-button topic and no new nuclear plants have been built in the United States since the Three-Mile Island disaster in the 1970s. Wind and solar just don't produce a lot of energy at this time and are still on the cusp of being an expensive initial investment, but prices are coming down.

This is probably the best time to buy an electric car!! Once electric cars become popular, higher demand will only result in price increases, never decreases, because that's how capitalism works. You should watch a movie called "Who Killed the Electric Car".

  3. QUESTION:
Does it worry you that Obama said electricity prices will skyrocket under his administration?
I know it's a little late to argue, but did anyone hear the clip where Barack Obama was saying he's gonna make coal so expensive by putting a carbon tax on it, and electricity prices will certainly skyrocket? Gas prices are already killing us, why would we want high electricity prices too? What do you think about this clip?
Unfrozen Caveman: How can it be BS when it's him saying it? And it wasn't on Hannity.

    • ANSWER:
turn off the hannity,,its all BS

  4. QUESTION:
Are gas and electricity prices likely to rise again?
Is it worth paying extra to get my gas and electricity at a fixed rate or are prices going to stabilise?

    • ANSWER:
Gas will decrease as long as you use constant. Because petrol is decreasing.

Electricity or lightning is a big problem novadays so I think it will go up for a while but will come down back.

  5. QUESTION:
Where can I get fixed electricity prices?
Where can i get electricity where i pay a fixed price no matter how much i use?

    • ANSWER:
Calling each electric company will tell you.
I do not think you will find one.

Best Electric Rates In Texas

Compare TX Electric Rates | Best Texas Electric Rates

What are the Best Electric Rates In Texas

Texas is a "deregulated" state as far as choice in electric providers. This has created a lot of opportunities and competition from various companies to vie for both home and business electric contracts. In short: opening up electric rates to competition has created a flurry of companies that want YOUR business. This has been awesome for consumers because the various companies have not only been engaged in "rate wars", but also in creating various niches, such as "green energy" where the customer gets electricity produced from wind or solar power (usually at a higher rate).

In order to get the best electric rates in Texas, a consumer need only put out a minimal effort and shop around. Likely you will contacted by electric rate reps that will shop for you. Don't be put off by their salesmen tactics - they really can save you some money. They do make a commission on your usage, so most of them specialize in "big" contracts with large companies or organizations. But, many of them also deal with residential electric customers. They nearly always end up saving you money as they have special agreements with the various electric providers and can offer you rates that are lower than the typical advertised rates.

Electricity Prices

According to the Energy Retail Association around 100,000 people switch energy supplier each week, the switching rates in Britain are the highest of any energy market in the world.

The main players within the UK energy market are the following six energy suppliers British Gas, EDF, Eon, Npower, Scottish and Southern Energy and Scottish Power. Together 98% of UK domestic energy customers are supplied by these suppliers. In terms of electricity as of the beginning of 2008, British Gas had the largest share of the electricity customers, followed by Eon, Scottish and Southern Energy, Npower, EDF and Scottish Power. The smaller electricity suppliers such as Ecotricity, First Utility, Good Energy, and Utilita accounted for roughly 0.3% of the UK domestic electricity supply.

As of December 2010 price rises are here again but customers must decide if they want to fix their bills now, or gamble that we have seen the last of the increases for the winter. Suppliers have caused anger by upping prices just in time for the winter, when usage is heaviest however for a few fast-acting customers it was ok as they were able to snap up a cheap fixed deal before all prices rose.

With electricity prices having already been raised once this winter it seems likely that the best non-fixed deals will remain better value then fixed tariffs. EDF Energy is the only big six supplier to have guaranteed to freeze standard gas and electricity prices for customers until March 2011, while E.ON is yet to make its pricing decision known.

According to experts we can expect to see increases in electricity prices of between 5-10% over the coming winter months with EDF first making the move and increasing rates by 2.6% from September

If you have never switched energy supplier or have not done it for a while then now is the time to do it, during the winter months. This is simply due to the fact that more energy is used during this period.

Electricity prices are different all over the country and the cheapest electricity supplier for you will depend upon where you live. By doing a quick electricity comparison you can see which tariff will be cheapest where you live.

What is the standard electricity cost in Bangkok in baht per unit?
I'm going to be looking for a new apartment soon, and I'd like to know the standard rate so I can compare it against the landlords'.

    • ANSWER:
I have a private residence in Bkk, and on my latest bill, the rate was 3.8 baht per unit. I know it is quite common for landlords to charge more than the government rate, I know someone who pays 9 baht per unit. It's just part of the cost of renting an apartment here, although I know some people whose landlords do not profit from the government rate. Most landlords make no secret of the fact that they profit from the electricity, as long as you are aware before you sign the lease.
PS. I just found out the official govt. rate can be as low as 2.98 baht per unit, but the cost per unit is based on usage, the more you use, the higher the rate.
